Mt.
Titlis is a 3,238 m high mountain range, situated in the Urner
Alps of the western European country, Switzerland. The country
is sited on the boundary amidst the cantons of Obwalden as well
as Berne in Switzerland, overlooking a municipality called, Engelberg.
Mt. Titlis is popular for presenting the world's first revolving
cable car. This cable car system links Engelberg to the pinnacle
of Klein Titlis, which is at the height of 3,028 m, through the
three stages of Gerschnialp (1,262 m), a mountain lake, Trübsee
(1,796 m) and Stand (2,428 m). The cable car to the Klein Titlis
was installed in March 1967.The final part of cable car way takes
you above the glacier. One can certainly view a glacier cave
in Klein Titlis.
On the northern side, the valley of Engelberg is drained by a tributary
of the Reuss, called Engelberger Aa. Further, Engelberger Aa is
a beautiful river of Switzerland, which flows through the valley
of Engelberg as well as Nidwalden. The valley is situated in the
south direction from Lake Lucerne. Additionally, the north most
side of the mass is enveloped with the Titlis Glacier, also known
as Titlisgletscher. The south steep as well as rocky face mounts
above the Wenden Glacier. On the other hand, the east side of the
place overtops a glacier called Firnalpeligletscher.
In the ancient times, Mt. Titlis was identified as Wendenstock
as well as Nollen. The Reissend Nollen and the Wendenstöcke
are the closest western neighbors to the Mt. Titlis, a little lower
than the mountain, but with pointed rugged peaks. The foremost
climb of Mt. Titlis was perhaps made by Ignaz Herz, J. E. Waser
and two other people from Engelberg in the year 1739. The prime
written confirmation of this climb was established in the Engelberger
Dokumente. Later, on 21 January, 1904, the foremost ski climb of
the Titlis was done by Kuster as well as Willi Amrhein.
The peak of Mt. Titlis is positioned above the snow line, which
helps in enhancing and maintaining cold climatic condition of the
place. The snowy climate of Mt. Titlis is permanent, round the
year. Snow-topped peak of Mt. Titlis is a treat to the eye of an
adventurous person as it presents various thrilling options like
mountaineering, bungee jumping and river rafting. Wrapped with
the whitish snow, Mt. Titlis offers outstanding greenery and a
wonderful natural setting to the visitor.
