Madurodam is a beautiful miniature city sited in Scheveningen,
The Hague, in the Netherlands. It is a mesmerizing imitation
of a Dutch town on a small scale of 1:25, composed of
identical Dutch buildings and landmarks that are placed
at various locations in the country. It is an admired
Dutch tourist attraction, constructed in the year 1952.
Millions of travelers visit Madurodam Hague, every year,
from different places of the world. The best thing about
this mesmerizing miniature is that it is truly identical
to the real city. This stunning miniature city has adopted
its name from George Maduro, who was a Jewish law student
from Curaçao.
George Maduro fought against the Nazi occupation forces,
becoming a significant part of the Dutch resistance and
died at the first Nazi concentration camp opened in Germany
called Dachau concentration camp in the year 1945. You
would be amazed to know that George Maduro was lately
awarded the medal of Knight fourth class of the Military
Order of William, which is the biggest and oldest military
decoration in the empire of the Netherlands. This award
was to honor his achievements and deeds he had demonstrated
in the fight of the Netherlands opposite German troops.
Further, the parents of George Maduro has a made a great
contribution in building this miniature city by donating
funds for the project.
Later, on 2nd July, 1952, the teenaged princess Beatrix,
the first daughter of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands
and Prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld, was appointed
mayor of Madurodam, after which she was given a trip
of her town. Princess Beatrix was married to Claus von
Amsberg in the year 1966, and raised three children together,
namely, Prince Willem-Alexander, Prince Friso and Prince
Constantijn. Beatrix became the queen of Netherlands
after her mother renounced her post. After becoming the
queen, Beatrix resigned her post. In today’s time,
Madurodam’s mayor is appointed by a youth municipal
council, which houses 25 pupils from schools in the province.
Further, the park was an inspiration for Storybook Land,
an impressive attraction situated at the Disneyland and
Disneyland Park (Paris), opened in 1955. In addition
to this, tip to Madurodam has inspired Fernando de Ercilla
to launch the project of Catalunya en Miniatura, which
is a miniature park installed in the year 1983 in Torrelles
de Llobregat. The park is one of the biggest parks, and
the famed attraction, across the globe.
