Delhi

Delhi is one of the oldest cities of the world which was supposed to be founded around 500 BC as mentioned in the Mahabharata. However, the word Delhi is derived from the word “Dhillika” which had around 18 different capital sites of different kings and emperors like Indraprastha, Lal Kot, Quila Rai Pithora, Siri, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad, Ferozabad, Dinpanah, Delhi Sher Shahi, Shahjahanabad etc.

The city of Delhi was built and destroyed seven times and ruled by various dynasties and empires since the ancient times. Some of the famous dynasties of medieval times were Tomaras, Mamluks, Khilji, Tughlaqs, Sayyids, Lodhis, Mughals and British made Delhi more attractive by constructing forts, monuments, museums, gardens, galleries, worship places with fine art and architecture etc. So, Delhi is the fusion of the ancient and the modern periods reflected in the form of present culture, architecture and human diversity. Standing along the northern India on the banks of the River Yamuna, and surrounded by the tourist destinations of India with Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Delhi has the political status of a federally-administered union territory known as the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), which in itself is part of National Capital Region.
