Bundi

Bundi is one of the important cities in the Hadoti area of the state of Rajasthan. It is a city of roughly 88,000 dwellers according to the 2001 census. This olde worlde little city is fast becoming a well-liked tourist attraction owing to the fact that it is representative of the culture prevalent in Rajasthan. It is of great architectural importance since this small city is dotted with ornate forts, splendid palaces, and step well tanks also known as baoris in the local dialect. Bundi city is the administrative capital of Bundi District.

In the olden times, the area in and around the city of Bundi was actually inhabited by different local tribes. The Parihar Meenas were famous amongst all the tribes. Bundi is believed to have derived its name from a previous Meena ruler known as Bunda Meena. Bunda-Ka-Nal was the name given to this city previously. The word Nal means “narrow ways.” Afterward, Rao Deva Hara, who took over Bundi from Jaita Meena in A.D. 1342, renamed the adjacent area.

Bundi is a small city in the state of Rajasthan and hence, has not joined the league of the metropolis in India as of yet. As a result, Bundi has retained its traditional charm. The locals living in this quaint city are old fashioned and follow the customs and rituals typical to the state of Rajasthan. Hindi and Rajasthani are the languages spoken here. The city is known for its typical Rajasthani cuisine like dal bati, churma, besan ki misi puri, lachha paratha etc.

By Air
The nearest airport to Bundi is the Sanganer Airport located at Jaipur, which is about 215 km from Bundi. Airport to Bundi city in taxi costs about Rs 2500. Jaipur airport is connected to metro cities Mumbai and Delhi. Foreign travelers can take connection flights from Delhi and Mumbai.

By Train
Nearest rail head is at Kota, which is 35 km away from Bundi. Taxi cost about Rs 500 from Kota to Bundi. Kota is well connected by rail to other major cities.

By Bus
Bundi is connected with Kota (35 km). Jaipur (215 km) and many other cities through state owned transport services. Private luxury buses are also plying between major cities and Bundi.

Bundi Weather

In summer seasons, beginning with March and ending by May, Bundi is extremely hot with temperature between 35°C to 43°C. In winters (November to February), the temperature is between 5°C to 30°C. Monsoons offer average rainfalls during June to September.

Best season to visit here is October to March, which offers a pleasant climate and coinciding with many imposing Hindu festivals like, Diwali in October. Surely avoid travel in April-May.
